R22 (also known as Freon) is being phased out worldwide due to its harmful effects on the ozone layer.

As per the US Environmental Protection Agency, R22 will become illegal in the United States on January 1, 2020.

Because of this many VaporTran owners are deciding to replace their old  freon-filled transformers with modern dry-type transformers.

There are two primary difficulties in these situations.

1. Proper disposal of freon per EPA regulations.
2. Finding a transformer that will fit perfectly in the narrow space left by the old GE VaporTran.

Maddox Industrial Transformer specializes in the removal, disposal, and replacement of freon-filled VaporTran transformers.  The typical process is as follows.

1. A technician comes to your site and takes all needed measurements to design the replacement transformer.
2. The client schedules a shut down.
3. Maddox builds a transformer that fits perfectly in place of the old VaporTran unit.
4. During the shut down, Maddox' disposal team removes the freon-filled transformer, and the installation team moves the new transformer into place.​
